Through Your Eyes | Trust Art Projects | Lambeth, Lewisham & Southwark – 2008
This project was designed to deliver basic educational photography workshops with refugees and asylum seekers in in Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. It involved refugees and asylum seekers to create quality photographs focused on integration. The project was intended to be a user friendly process enabling the participants to contribute to art and socio-cultural activity associating with their views of the world surrounding them and the angle they see it.
The workshops were pitched to address on individual’s needs and wants. One of the most successful aspects was giving the opportunity to adults who had never had anything like it before. Many of the participants got to go to the Tate Modern to see a major exhibition and The Photographers’ Gallery and also received a special talk at The Photographers’ Gallery. They were all able to respond to certain works in the exhibitions with their own personal take on what they saw, it fed back to the group opening discussion which increased their confidence in speaking out loud and in public.
